What Is the NextGen Bar Exam?
The NextGen Bar Exam (NextGen UBE) is a completely redesigned bar examination launching July 2026. It replaces the traditional UBE with a shorter, skills-based, fully digital format. The exam covers 8 core subjects across three 3-hour sessions, testing 7 foundational lawyering skills alongside legal knowledge. The format includes standalone multiple-choice questions (49% of score), integrated question sets (21%), and performance tasks (30%). Scores are reported on a 500-750 scale and are portable between participating jurisdictions.
