Is your state taking the NextGen bar exam?
A state-by-state breakdown of NextGen Bar Exam adoption status for all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Six U.S. states sit in the July 2026 first cohort: Connecticut, Idaho, Maryland, Missouri, Oregon, and Washington (NCBE has additionally listed four U.S. territories — Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, and the U.S. Virgin Islands — in the first administration window). Thirteen states join in July 2027. Twenty-one more states adopt in 2028. California has opted out of NextGen and Nevada has announced it will not adopt; several states are still finalizing transition plans. Every row carries an official source URL plus a verified date.
